Francis Chan, Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God
I really like the way Francis Chan equates Faith and Trust in this quote. Faith can often be a confusing concept to understand. However, when you think about Faith the same way you think about Trust, the complexities become simpler to grasp. When I think about people in the Bible who had a Trusting Faith similar to the kind described by Francis, I think of people like Abraham and Sarah, who continually stepped out into the realm of impossibility simply because they trusted God.
“By faith, even Sarah herself received power to conceive, and she bore a child when she was past age, since she counted him faithful who had promised.”
Hebrews 11:11
“By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.”
Hebrews 11:8-10
By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death.
Hebrews 11:17-19
Although it may not always feel like we can trust God with the impossible, he has proven himself worthy of that level of trust time and again. His faithfulness can be seen throughout scripture and in the lives of believers today.
